The purpose of this proposal is to create a model for mobilizing communities to expand healthy lifestyle choices for children ages three through 12 and their caregivers. The key components of the model in this proposal are community organization through the creation of a Healthy Kids Coalition, institutional change in community agencies that serve children and lay leaders as advocates for system and behavior change.  Under the leadership of the local coalition, the lay health workers will work as change agents with two after-school programs, the local elementary school, churches, city government and the agricultural extension service.
